COMPOSING FOR THE SCREEN
I have scored a number of documentary films ranging in topic from Kiwi beak surgery to the conservation of NZ national parks. Listen to my soundtrack sampler and watch my show-reel for more.
I have recently finished work on two seasons of 'Orangutan Jungle School', an internationally acclaimed series following the life and times of the critically endangered Borneon primate and the dedicated people who are trying to save them. See more in my video section below.
“As a filmmaker, working with composers can often be stressful and challenging. When issues began to arise with a composer during production of a 25 minute documentary, I needed someone who was experienced and would actually listen to my feedback. Thankfully I found Scott. With my deadline fast approaching, Scott quickly got to work and created a beautifully dynamic and original score for my film. I’ve recommended him to other filmmakers and will not hesitate to employ his talents again!” – Kimberly Frost, Filmmaker
Tamatea: The Art of Conservation
"I’m incredibly pleased with the soundtrack that Scott composed for the film “Tamatea: Art & Conservation in Dusky Sound”. With minimal direction, he produced a score that perfectly captured the subdued mood I was seeking, creating something unique and memorable, and delivered with a quick turnaround that really helped my tight edit schedule. A triple plus, would recommend." - Braydon Maloney, Natural History NZ.
Orangutan Jungle School
"Scoring the scenes I gave to Scott for each episode was definitely a challenging exercise but Scott never failed to amaze me with his stunning compositions which increased our production values 100% for each episode. Scott always delivered narrative in his music which enhanced the subtleties of the characters’ exploits and the situations they were facing.
The cues were always bang on, with minimal re-writes which is a massive bonus for any post production team chasing deadlines.
Scott has a huge range of musical styles and influences and was able to bring real originality to each cue but always maintain a stylistic “feel” for the series.
I will always grasp at the chance to work with Scott again on any film or television project and would highly recommend him as an asset to the production team." - Judith Curran, Executive Producer
The Silent Invader
"It has been a pleasure to work with Scott. He is very professional and his passion for composing translated into beautiful pieces that were perfect for the underwater scenes in my film “The Silent Invader”. He understood exactly what I was imagining and delivered in a very short time frame. I would love to have him on board for future projects." - Berenice Mathieu, Filmmaker
